Project Window

To open the sample project, click Open Project on the toolbar [Open project button]. The Open Project dialog box appears, filtering for .DEP files, DEdit Project files. In the dialog box, open the \sample1 folder and then open the Sample1.dep file. The Project Window, docked on the left, now shows the resources for the project in its various tabbed panes.

Hint: The Project Window can be re-sized. Drag its right edge to the width you prefer. It can also be undocked or re-positioned. Drag it to the position you prefer using the region just above the Project Window tabs. You can also undock it by double-clicking that region or the outside edge of the window. While it is undocked, you can re-size it both vertically and horizontally. To re-dock it, double-click its title bar or drag it to the side you prefer. If you accidentally close the window while it is undocked, display it again by selecting Project Window on the View menu.

The Project Window contains various tabbed dialogs, described in detail in the following sections.
  • [Tabs in DEdit]Models Tab: Shows the models directories and the model files. Double-clicking a model file opens the Model Editor.
  • Nodes Tab: When a World file is open for editing, this tab shows a tree view of the nodes in that world.
  • Properties Tab: When a node has been selected on the Nodes Tab, this tab shows the properties of the selected container, brush, or object.
  • Sounds Tab: Shows the sounds directories and the sound files. Double-clicking a sound file plays it in your default sound player.
  • Sprites Tab: Shows the sprites directories and the sprite files. Double-clicking a sprite file opens the Sprite Editor.
  • Textures Tab: Shows the textures directories and the texture files. Selecting a texture file shows a preview of that texture.
  • Worlds Tab: Shows the worlds directories and the world files. Double-clicking a world file opens it for editing if it is not already open.
  • Classes Tab: Shows all classes in the object.lto file.

The Worlds and resources tabs are described in the following section. The Nodes and Properties tabs are described at the end of the Project Window topic.
